The Whisky Vaults is a pub in Oban that stocks a wide range of single malts, currently around 350 bottlings. I can’t say I’ve frequented it often since it opened, the high price of drinking fancy whisky in a bar usually means I carry out my whisky drinking in the house. This bar was formerly known as The Woodside and many years ago was Oban’s session pub, with weekly or monthly sessions taking place in the tiny front bar.

The pub has now been taken over by MacGrergor’s of Inverness, run by Bruce MacGregor (formerly of the long running and well known fiddle group Blazin Fiddles). Bruce is a fierce advocate for traditional Scottish music and his venue in Inverness has become one of the best known session pubs in the country. The first weekend of music in The Whisky Vaults was a great success, with sessions on three days, various live musicians, choirs and even dancers. I wish Bruce, Jo and the team much success.
