Pawkie Adam Glen

Auld Tunes – 3/2 Tunes

A tune in 3/2 time, also know as a triple hornpipe or a 3/2 hornpipe. Adam Glen was reputed to be a piper who died while playing his pipes in the front line at The Battle of Sherrifmuir in 1715. According to The Dictionaries of The Scots Language, pawkie means ‘wily, sly, cunning, crafty’.

I don’t remember where I learnt my setting from. The tune is old, appearing as part of William Dixon’s 1733 setting of ‘New Way To Morpeth and as ‘Miss Murray’s Reel’ in Bremner’s Scots Reels of 1757. I play the tune in this set.
