Hamiltonhill Claypits is a Local Nature Reserve, situated alongside the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal. Historically, the site served as a clay quarry supporting canal construction, with its clay used to seal the canal bed. Following years of dereliction, community-led efforts revitalised the site, culminating in its official public opening in July 2021.
The reserve now features walking paths, panoramic views of Glasgow and a mosaic of habitats including woodland, scrub and grassland which supports diverse wildlife including roe deer and waterfowl. (24/09/25)
